SURFACE AND FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY WORKSHOP – Sept’ 2019

On 28th and 29th September 2019, St. Andrews College of Physiotherapy organised a hands on workshop on “Surface and Functional Anatomy for Physiotherapist” for the students of third year BPTh. The resource person was Dr. M VijayKumar. The workshop began on 28th september at 9 am. Dr. Albin Jerome, Principal of St. Andrews college of Physiotherapy felicitated Dr. Vijaykumar with a bouque of flowers. Then, Dr. Vijaykumar began the workshop by introducing anatomy of joints of upper limb and explaining each joint in detail. He also mentioned about orientation of muscles and their relations with other structures such as bursae. He talked about the course of the nerves of upper limb and taught the assessment of neuro-muscular injuries. Then, he explained the surface markings on body.The students then practiced by making surface markings on themselves. There was active participation amongst the students which made the workshop more enthusiastic.

The following day, the workshop continued by Dr. Vijaykumar describing the joints and muscles of lower limb. He explained in detail the anatomy of various joints, the origin and insertion of muscles, their relations with the surrounding structures and the courses of the various nerves. He also mentioned about the dermatomes, myotomes and showed various interesting videos. The session concluded by the students receiving certificates from Dr. Vijaykumar. At the end of the workshop, the students had better idea about the surface and functional anatomy and its importance in physiotherapy. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Neha.
