WORLD OZONE DAY – 2019
St. Andrews College of Physiotherapy celebrated the World Ozone Day on 25th September, 2019. The theme for the day was “32 years and healing”. The programme began with a prayer to shower the blessings of the Almighty upon the function followed by a hymn sung by the students of physiotherapy. The host introduced the audience to the theme and the importance of ozone in the atmosphere.
Principal of Physiotherapy College Dr. Albin Jerome, welcomed the chief guest Dr. V. Vizaya Bhaskar who is a scientist in Indian Meteorological Department. The chief guest addressed the gathering through his informative presentation. He spoke about the importance of ozone layer present in the stratosphere and how it absorbs the ultraviolet radiations. He explained how the ozone layer is formed and its measurement using the Dobson unit. He informed about the role of chlorofluorocarbons in ozone layer depletion and about the ozone hole, its dangers and the precautions one should take to protect our mother planet Earth. After his knowledgeable lecture ended, he was felicitated by Dr. Albin Jerome. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks given by the host.
