International Yoga Day – 2018

Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. The word yoga originates from Yuja, a Sanskrit word which means, “to join or to unite”, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Many studies have tried to determine the effectiveness of yoga as a complementary and results of these studies have been mixed and in conclusive On December 1, 2016, yoga was listed by UNESCO as an Intangible cultural heritage.
International Yoga Day was observed in the campus on 21st June 2018 .This day is dedicated to inner and outer well-being of human body aiming to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga, a physical, mental and spiritual practice. The theme for Yoga Day 2018 is “Yoga for Peace.”
The students of St. Andrews College of Physiotherapy celebrated International Day of Yoga with a brief note on International Yoga day and the theme of the year 2018 “Yoga for peace” by Dr.Albin Jerome, Principal, St. Andrews College of Physiotherapy, Pune. The volunteers, students, faculty and non-teaching staff were present and participated in the event held at the indoor auditorium.
The programme started at 9 AM with Dr.Gaurai Gharote, Assistant Professor, St Andrews College of Physiotherapy took the lead as the demonstrator. She demonstrated all the yoga which was followed by performing the yoga as per the instruction and supervision of the demonstrator.

- Pachimottasana

- Gomukhaasana
- Shavasana
All the participants had actively participated in yoga sessions. The programme ended with a positive note followed by refreshments.
