VISIT TO ARTIFICIAL LIMB CENTER - Feb 2024

An educational visit to ARTIFICIAL LIMB CENTER, PUNE was organized by the Community Department, St. Andrew’s college of Physiotherapy on 16th February 2024 for 3rd and 4th B.P.Th students. Artificial Limb Center is an institute run under Armed Forces Medical College for Amputees’ pre and post prosthetic training till patients achieve independence in ADLs and other activities. The visit was hosted by Dr. Nita Mishra (PT), where she started with fitting room where various prosthesis and orthosis that are available and supplied to the patients. Following we visited Gait Laboratory where patients are trained for walking with prosthesis. Along with regular walking aids, they demonstrated use of advanced devise such as DST lab where staircase, uphill and downhill training takes place and Baropedometry where the pressure and gait analysis are done of the patients with the prosthesis. Following this we visited the EME workshop where prosthesis and orthosis are prepared. Students also got a chance to interact with the patients and understand their history and journey of recovery. A tour was also given in the physiotherapy department, especially for the advanced modalities that are used to treat phantom limb sensation, phantom limb pain and neuromas. The visit concluded by a small talk by the Major General wherein he interacted with the students.
