VISIT TO LEPROSY CENTER, MIRAJ - June 2024

St Andrew’s college of Physiotherapy organized one day educational visit to The Leprosy Mission Hospital-Richardson Leprosy Hospital at Miraj on 12th June 2024. 26 Final BPTH students accompanied by teaching staff Dr. Venkatesan. R and Dr. Kirti Thodge actively participated in the visit. General Orientation to OPD services and in-patients’ services available in the campus. A detailed explanation about reconstructive surgeries was delivered by Staff Nurse Ms. Vidhya Ankaj. The Occupational therapist Ms. Saraswati Aranganathan explained about the materials used in manufacturing of artificial limbs. Prosthetic and Orthotics professional Mr. Monishkumar Neelakandan explained about various prosthesis and orthoses used in the rehabilitation of Leprosy. Students were taken to the In-patient wards where they had exposure on seeing patients with foot ulcers and various hand deformities. Towards the end of orientation programme, Dr. Richard, Chief medical officer of Richardson Leprosy Hospital delivered an informative lecture on history, spread, control, drugs and other management involved in the treatment of Leprosy.
